Karen & Laura’s visit to Chundu Island
On my last trip to our Victoria Falls Office, Laura and I decided to head out to the beautiful Chundu Island for the night for a ‘look-see’.
We headed out late afternoon for an hours’ game drive transfer through the Park before a short boat transfer across to the island and arrived in camp in the early evening to a very warm welcome by all the staff and manageress Candice.
The evening was spent, learning about the lodge and taking in the calm – this little island is only and hours game drive from the heart of Victoria Falls yet you feel like you are several hours away in the middle of the bush – just listening to the sounds of the hippo and hyena in the distance.
The rooms are nice and spacious, with an outdoor shower and indoor bath – each has its own private verandah that looks out onto the River and into the Zambezi National Park. The Island is filled with amazing birdlife and their resident family of bushbuck.
Activities include game drives in the Park, Island Walks, Fun fishing, boat cruises and canoeing. A tour of the Falls can be arranged as well.
Early the next morning, before heading back to the office – we did a quick Island walk, which was just beautiful especially with the sun coming through. We then headed back for a delightful breakfast before making our way back.
This is a great option for those looking for an island feel who want to see the Falls or for a bit of R & R after seeing the Falls and doing their safari. Great way to end an itinerary in a perfect location.
