Namibia

Namibia
Sossusvlei, Etosha, Damaraland, Skeleton Coast

Namibia is best known for Etosha National Park in the north and the massive sand dunes of Sossusvlei and seafood at Swakopmund- but there is so much more to see.

The remote Skeleton coast where diamonds the size of fists were found on the beach is quite spectacular and further north the wilds of Kaokaland towards the border with Angola offer unbelievable vistas as well as the chance to learn about the nomadic Himba tribe – who still lead a very traditional way of life.

Fly around safaris on set schedules are a popular way to cover the various areas for those with a short time For those with longer private guided trips and small groups are an easy way to see the country – camping or accommodated, However, we find one of the most popular is self-driving – with a relatively limited but good, well-signposted road network with very few technical roads – it’s a great option for a first-time self driver.

One of our biggest tips for self-drive & guided tour clients is to not do too much!  Namibia is huge and the road distances are massive, so it is best to choose your destinations and we advise you of the best combinations. Otherwise, you will spend more time behind the wheel and less time seeing the destinations – which is such a shame!

Fly around Namibia
13-night safari itinerary.

This fly-around Namibia safari stays at luxurious safari camps in some remote areas of Namibia. Starting and finishing in Windhoek, a series of charter flights will take you around visiting the extraordinary Sossusvlei area, famed for its huge sand dunes, visiting dead vlei, the beautiful iconic valley between the dunes, then up to the unusual coastal town of Swakopmund, built on the edge of the desert, now a vibrant fishing town, with some adrenalin activities to explore or simply enjoy wandering around. The Hoanib Valley, famed for its desert elephants and amazing scenery and finally to the remote Hartmann Valley, for a stay at the unique Serra Kafema camp, in the remote north of the country.

One of the best and most affordable ways to get around Namibia is on a self-drive, these involve hiring a 4WD vehicle and booking some accommodation along the way. The roads are relatively easy to navigate and get around, mainly tar and gravel.

In this self-drive, we visit Etosha Nate Park, Damaraland and the pretty coastal town of Swakopmund, then onto the Sossusvlei area for a stay at Desert Homestead Lodge and a camp out at their Outpost Lodge.

Etosha has great game viewing, expect to see lion, cheetah and desert antelope such as Oryx, and this contrasts with the stunning rock formation and bushman art in Damaraland and coastal scenery of the Atlantic coast, finally finishing at the Sossusvlei region with huge sand dunes to climb.

A wonderful family adventure!
