Mozambique

We arrange add-ons to several areas in Mozambique – the Bazaruto peninsular, In and around Maputo Tofu & Inhambane area and Nampula/Isla de Mozambique.

Most people will fly in from Johannesburg with regular flights to Maputo, Inhambane, Vilanculos and Nampula.

The Bazaruto Archipelago just off the coast by Vilanculos is a protected marine land area and offers stunningly beautiful lodges n white sandy beaches with a selection of activities including watersports and Dhow cruises – heaven! This area is a popular Honeymoon add on pre or post-safari, The town of Vilanculos on the mainland has some beautiful lodges along its coastline which are a little more affordable than the islands and we highly recommend this area.

The Maputo area and Inhaca island is easily accessible with a flight from Johannesburg or Harare, Maputo, formerly known as Lourenco Marques,  has beautiful Portuguese architecture and is an interesting and vibrant city, renowned for its seafood restaurants and is worth a couple of night stay, There is a good  selection of affordable lodges within easy reach of Maputo accessed by road transfer and boat,

The Nampula and the nearby Ilha de Mozambique is one of our favourite areas being steeped in history as this is where the Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama landed in the 16th century. This interesting island has much historic Portuguese architecture to explore as well as relaxing on the beautiful beaches.

Tofu is an idyllic fishing village accessed from Inhambane airport and offers a delightful and affordable Guesthouse dotted along the beach. Snorkelling with whale sharks, found at certain times of the year in this bay,  is a great experience and one we have enjoyed ourselves.

This is a great safari that combines the wonderful Mana Pools and Hwange National Parks with a few days at Victoria Falls.

You get around using small inter-camp flights. Both Mana Pools and Hwange are renowned for their game viewing and walking safaris and offer diverse and contrasting habitats.

Botswana is known as the last true wilderness of Africa, mainly but to its reputation of private concessions with small personalised lodges in remote areas where you don’t have to share with many other people.

These days there are lots of Lodge options to choose from to suit all budgets and the time of year also helps to maximise your budget.

This itinerary features the enigmatic Central Kalahari with the classic Okavango Camp and then to the Savuti region of Chobe NP.

South Luangwa is arguably the best-known National Park in Zambia and has become very popular, especially with good scheduled flight links from Lusaka to Mfuwe, the main hub,

From here you either head north or south to a great selection of lodges, from fairly large lodges and small intimate bush lodges to choose from.

This itinerary features owner-run Kafunta Lodge with its sister camp Island River Camp in the south.

South Luangwa also connects well with Malawi with a direct flight from Mfuwe to Lilongwe
