Confidence in Zimbabwe shown with new lodges
Zimbabwe has always had a vibrant tourism and safari scene and with a recent surge in confidence, it is only getting better. Many are realising the incredible experiences to be had in the country. With growing visitors, investor confidence and wonderful experienced hospitality staff new camps and lodges are opening and our offerings are becoming even more diverse.
Here are just a few of the new offerings:
Verney’s Camp offers a classic safari experience in a wildlife-rich, remote area. It opened in May 2018 and is on a private concession within Hwange National Park. With 10 en-suite safari tents and a central area, all kitted with warm decor Verney’s is a great option year round but really comes into its own in the dry winter months.
Deteema Springs Camp, also part of the Machaba group will open on May 1, 2019. It is in the north-west of Hwange National Park park. This area is known for its large concentrations of animals, including elephants, and, due to the year-round availability of water, it teems with wildlife and is ideal for walking and game drives. It will welcome children over 6 years of age with one family unit and only 8 tents in total.
Deka Camp also by Machaba will open on June 1. It is uniquely situated on a low hill overlooking the Deka Seeps, a spring which is the headwaters of the Deka River that flows east to the Zambezi. This gives year-round water and game viewing especially of the Park’s elephants in the dry season.
In Victoria Falls Ilala Lodge has opened its Strathearn luxury suites. These standalone ‘apartments’ are ideal for families & honeymooners. The suites come complete with private lounge, kitchen and bathroom with double vanity basins, walk-in shower and an indulgent bathtub. Crisp, white linens, contemporary dark-wood headboards, amenities such as minibar and Nespresso machine, sockets for most international plugs and a USB port. Enjoy views of the spray rising above the mighty Victoria Falls waterfall from your private balcony.
Ilala Lodge is also due to open a sister hotel on the banks of the Zambezi- the Palm River Lodge is due to open May 2020.
Ingwe Camp in Mana Pools will open September 2019. Set around 7km south of the Zambezi, inside Mana Pools National Park in northern Zimbabwe, Ingwe Pan Camp is under the same ownership as Verney’s Camp. Details are scant for now but it promises the same great experience that these owners always deliver.
Nyamatusi Camp is the latest in the African Bush Camps Collection and opened today! Nyamatusi allows guests to experience an authentic view of the old untouched Africa. The design of the camp subtly incorporates the element of water and pays homage to the astounding beauty of the mighty Zambezi River. Consisting of 6 luxury tented suites with uninterrupted views of the river and escarpment beyond, the camp inspires a feeling of remoteness. Enjoy game drives, exceptional walking and river safaris.
