The Wild Horizons Wildlife Trust

whwt-logoIs the brain child and dream of Gavin and Shay Best whose lives both revolved around animals and conservation both in Hwange and here in Victoria Falls. The trust was initially set up as a small animal hospital to treat injured and orphaned animals. With the local company Wild Horizons behind it and a very dynamic board of trustees, the trust has grown from strength to strength and is now widely recognized through Zimbabwe and employs some much respected experts.

Trust projects include:

Wildlife research
Wildlife Orphanage
Wildlife rescue
Wildlife laboratory
Community outreach
Conservation training
Internship program
Disease sampling program

The Wildlife trust has largely taken over what the government was doing before. It is now of huge importance to Victoria Falls area and even the country as a whole, Dr Roger Parry, Dr Jessica Dawson, Bongani Dlodlo and Dr Chris Foggin are the main team whilst dedicated permanent volunteers lend a hand at every opportunity.

The trust only succeeds through the kindness and generosity of donors – There is no government funding of any sort. Should you wish to visit the trust whilst in Victoria Falls we would gladly organize this on your behalf. If you would like to make a small donation – then all of the animals and birds of Zimbabwe and all our here living in the falls – thank you.

Mother Africa

Truly a holiday with a difference. Have the experience of your life volunteering, contributing; getting involved in our wide variety of community and conservation projects. This is gap-year eco-tourism at its most rewarding and exciting. Travel Wild Fully supports the Mother Africa initiative which leads the way in sustainable eco tourism. This is a “win win” situation for all involved and we can think of no better donation then your time.
Zimbabwe is a country that has undergone much turmoil in its recent history. As with most cases of political unrest it is the average citizen who is left with little choices in order to improve their circumstances. The Zimbabwean nation is a proud one, they do not willingly accept handouts but give them a chance to work for any benefits and they will do so with gratitude and sincerity.

Mother Africa is totally dependent on volunteer involvement to keep its projects afloat, and its people like you who are making a real difference to local people’s lives and helping to safeguard Zimbabwe’s wildlife.

Volunteering in Zimbabwe with such open and friendly people, who are truly grateful for the assistance and funding volunteers provide is a unique and often life changing event. Our volunteers mostly leave with a changed perception on life, and a deeper appreciation for Africa and its people.
